I have had dogs -- mostly mixed breeds -- for most of my life.  My first dog as a "grown-up" was an abandoned husky mix puppy. Looking through dog books trying to guess what breed she was, I came upon a photo of an Australian Shepherd. I was immediately attracted to the breed, but it was about 15 years later that I got my first Aussie.

In 1994, I intercepted Annie as her family was dropping her off at the pound. She was 8 months old and I was her third home since leaving her breeder.  Annie was a typical Aussie in many ways, but had a challenging temperament.  I struggled to find a solution for months, but fate dealt with it for me.  About a year after I adopted her, Annie got out of my yard and was hit by a car, killed instantly.

I decided to get new puppy and began calling breeders who I had read about in the Aussie Times. I decided on a puppy from Rhonda Silveira (Hisaw) -- my little Mika, still going strong nearly 13 years later. Rhonda has been very kind and supportive over the years.  I have great respect for her and her family.
